Thoroughbreds rejuvenate postseason aspirations with 15-9 win over Rochester

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team remained in the hunt for a playoff berth on Friday afternoon with a 15-9 Liberty League win over University of Rochester at Wachenheim Field.
 
  • The Thoroughbreds are 3-5 in the Liberty League, 7-7 overall, and trail three teams (RPI, Rochester, Vassar) all tied at 4-4, for fifth place. The top seven teams make the tournament. UofR is 9-6 overall.
  • Jillian Lockwood led the way for Skidmore. She had five goals, four of which in the first quarter, and an assist. Five goals and six points are both career highs for the sophomore.
  • Rochester scored five unanswered goals over a span of 5:48 to close the game to two, 10-8, with 12:28 remaining in the fourth quarter.
  • Skidmore was able to score four of the final five goals to negate the attack.
  • Julia Cafasso scored three goals and added an assist for four points.
  • Lily Schwartzman and Grace deBenedictis had two goals each. deBenedictis also helped out with an assist.
  • Maeve McKinley and Gabriella Modesti both pitched in with one goal and one assist.
  • Sophie Craco also scored for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Liv Kazanjian got the win in goal, her first of the season, behind an 11-save effort.
  • Lucy Haggerty led the Yellowjackets with two goals and two assists.
  • Lorelei King, Alyssa Gormy, and Emma Little also each scored twice.
  • Emily Geiss made 10 saves.
  • Skidmore outpaced UofR in shots (32-27), shots on goal (25-20), and ground balls (23-12). Draw controls finished tied at 13.
  • Ella Harris had five draw controls for Skidmore.
  • Lara Strunk scooped up six ground balls. McKinley had five to go along with three draw controls.
  • Amanda Garnder caused two turnovers.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will play its final home game of the regular season on Saturday at 2 p.m. against RIT.
