Thoroughbreds double up Clark, 20-10

WORCESTER, Mass. – Behind seven goals and an assist from sophomore Brian Gonsalves, the Skidmore College men's lacrosse team rolled to a 20-10 non-league win at Clark University on Wednesday afternoon.
 
  • Skidmore, listed under the "receiving votes" category for the first time this season in the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) Week 10 Poll, has clinched winning season, its first full season to do it since 2011. The Thoroughbreds are 9-5 with three games left.
  • The host Cougars are 4-8.
  • The offensive outburst from Gonsalves matches only teammate Charlie McFadden for the team's season high in both goals and points. Seven goals and eight points are both career highs for Gonsalves.
  • McFadden finished with three goals and an assist for four points.
  • Jon Bouvier and Caleb Lawson had two goals apiece.
  • Skidmore also used goals from six different players: Charlie Kessler, David Muti, Will Fekete, Tim Blue, Jack Doherty, Jack Whalen. From the bunch, three (Fekete, Blue, Doherty) also attributed an assist.
  •   Max Heberlein, Charlie Murphy, and Gabriel Sgambettera also had assists for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Skidmore also doubled up Clark in total shots, 62-31.
  • The Thoroughbreds had 51 total ground balls, led by Jablonowski, Ryan Flynn, and Paul Heffernan, with five each.
  • Flynn, Heffernan, Collin Kuester, and Matthew McFadden each caused two turnovers.
  • Kuester made eight saves in the win for Skidmore.
  • Luke Curtin finished 9-3 in the faceoff circle.
  • Skidmore's man-down defense went a perfect 4-for-4.
  • Skidmore's led was trimmed to four, 14-10, with two Clark goals in the third quarter. Skidmore rolled off each of the final six goals of the game.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will travel to nationally third-ranked RIT on Saturday.
