#4 William Smith gets hot in second half to pull away from Skidmore

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – William Smith scored nine of its 18 goals in the third quarter to defeat the Skidmore College women's lacrosse team, 18-7. The nationally fourth-ranked Herons remain undefeated at 9-0 and 3-0 in the Liberty League. Skidmore is 6-3 and 2-2.
 
  • Jillian Lockwood was the lone Thoroughbred who had a multi-point game. She scored twice.
  • Six other players scored for the Thoroughbreds: Brooke LaVallee, Maddy Marr, Gabriella Modesti, Lily Schwartzman, and Grace deBenedictis.
  • Elizabeth Walsh and Maeve McKinley had assists for Skidmore.
  • In her first start of the year, Liv Kazanjian made 14 saves in goal for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Maddie Montgomery scored seven times to lead the way for the Herons.
  • Katherine Murray and Kaitlin Pellechia scored three each for the visitors. Murray also had two assists.
  • Six of Kazanjian's 14 saves were in the first quarter, when Skidmore played WSC tough. Skidmore tied it at one 4:10 into the contest and it remained that way until the Herons scored three times in the final 1:44, and then got three more in the first half of the second quarter, to take a 7-1 lead.
  • Skidmore scored the next two and trailed by just four, 7-3, at the half.
  • Montomery potted five out of her seven tallies in the third quarter alone as William Smith took a 9-3 scoring edge in the period and a 16-6 advantage into the fourth quarter.  
  • William Smith finished with a 21-7 edge in draw controls and led 17-3 in free-position shots. The Herons scored six free-position goals.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will hit the road next weekend for league games at Clarkson (April 7) and St. Lawrence (April 8).
