Skidmore keeps it rolling with 16-5 win over Alfred

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team scored 14 out of 15 goals over a stretch that spanned over three quarters to pick up a 16-5 win over visiting Alfred University on Sunday, in a rescheduled game.
 
  • Skidmore has outscored its opponents 38-11 over the last two games. The Thoroughbreds are 2-1 in the season, and the previously unbeaten Saxons fall to 2-1.
  • Five different players had multi-goal games for Skidmore led by Jon Bouvier, who had four goals and two assists for six points.
  • Brian Gonsalves and Charlie McFadden each scored three goals. Gonsalves also had an assist to finish with four points. McFadden has scored at least three goals in Skidmore's first three games.
  • Jimmy Gibbons had two goals, while Tim Blue went for two goals and one assist.
  • Owen Quinn and Cole Rogers each scored once. Jack Fitzpatrick had Skidmore's other assist.
  • Kevin Matson scored three out of the five visitor goals.
  • In another group effort in goal for Skidmore, Collin Kuester got the win. He started and turned aside 11 shots and allowed two goals. Avery Stamps made five saves in over 14 minutes of work. Ned Wright made one save over the final 5:33 of play.
  • Alfred started Scott Kimiecik made five saves and surrendered five goals before being replaced due to injury.
  • Skidmore's man-down defense was solid. Alfred scored twice in nine man-up opportunities. Skidmore was 2-for-5 in extra-player chances.
  • Skidmore dominated the faceoffs, doubling up Alfred 16-8. Fitzpatrick was 12-5, Luke Curtin was 3-3, and Matt Terrana was 1-0. Fitzpatrick also led Skidmore in ground balls with seven. Quinn and Charlie Murphy picked up four each. Quinn also caused a team-high three turnovers.
  • Skidmore had a 47-31 advantage in ground balls.
  • Skidmore scored the first two goals and after Alfred got on the board, the Thoroughbreds potted six unanswered to take an 8-1 lead. Alfred got one more with 2:15 left in the first half.
  • The Thoroughbreds went on another eight-goal unanswered streak. The Saxons scored each of the last three goals, two while man-up.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Plattsburgh State on Wednesday, March 8 at 3:30 p.m. in the first part of a Skidmore lacrosse doubleheader.
