Thoroughbreds lock down Dutchwomen in 15-3 drubbing

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team did not surrender a second-half goal as Jillian Lockwood and Gabriella Modesti each scored four times in a dominant 15-3 Liberty League win for the Thoroughbreds over Union College on Saturday morning.
 
  • Skidmore improves to 6-1 on the year and it off to a quick 2-0 start in the Liberty League. Union is 4-2 and 0-1.
  • Modesti also assisted twice to finish with six points. She has 14 points in her last two games.
  • Avery Geddes and Camille Pontone had two goals apiece.
  • Maddy Marr scored once and tallied a game high three assists to finish with four points.
  • Grace deBenedictis and Sophie Craco both found the back of the net once.
  • Caleigh Tryder caused three turnovers and scooped up seven ground balls; both game highs.  
  • Ella Harris had five draw controls.
  • Kate Julien, Sydney McPartlon, and Charlton Drew were the goal scorers for Union.
  • In goal for Skidmore, Phoebe Beshlian made three saves for her sixth win.
  • Skidmore jumped to a 3-0 lead with three goals in the first 3:17 of play. Union got the next one, but Skidmore answered to end the first quarter up 4-1.
  • After Geddes scored her first at the three-minute mark of the second period, Union got the next two to make it a two-goal game.
  • The Thoroughbreds went into the break up by three goals. Modesti made it 6-3 with 4:37 left in the half. Union had the last possession with a chance to cut the deficit to two but was unable to get a shot attempt off before the clock ran out.
  • Skidmore scored on each of its first two shots in the third quarter to set the tone for a 9-0 second half.
  • Shots finished 30-12 for Skidmore, including an 18-5 cushion in the second half.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Vassar College on Wednesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. at Wachenheim Field.
