Quick start carries #16 Cortland past Skidmore 18-10

CORTLAND, N.Y.— SUNY Cortland scored nine of the game's first 10 goals in an 18-10 non-league men's lacrosse win over Skidmore College Wednesday night. The loss snaps a five-game win street for the Thoroughbreds who are 5-2. The 18th ranked Red Dragons are 5-1.
  • Charlie McFadden scored a career-high seven goals and had an assist and four ground balls to lead the Thoroughbreds. Jon Bouvier added a goal and two assists, while Nicolo Mazzocca and Will Fekete scored solo goals.
  • Jack Fitzpatrick was 10-21 on faceoffs to go along with eight ground balls.
  • Jason Chiodo led Cortland with four goals.
  • The Red Dragons got to work early with a four unanswered first quarter goals to lead 4-0 after one. Cortland stretched the lead to 6-0 Before McFadden scored his 17th of the season to get the Thoroughbreds on the board at 11:55 of the second.
  • After three additional Cortland goals, McFadden found the net twice to cut the lead to 9-3. A late Red Dragon goal left it 10-3 at the half.
  • Cortland opened the third with three goals, before the Thoroughbreds responded with three straight of their own. Another 3-0 run by the Red Dragons left it 16-6 early in the fourth quarter.
  • Skidmore outscored the Red Dragons 4-2 the rest of the way for the 18-10 final.
  • Cortland had a 46-42 edge in shots and 43-41 advantage in ground balls.
  • Colin Kuester had 13 saves for the Thoroughbreds.
  • The game was a rescheduled contest from Feb. 25.
