FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Skidmore College baseball team opened its spring break trip to Florida with 2-0 and 6-2 wins over Wisconsin Lutheran College on Sunday afternoon.
Â
Ameer Hasan tossed a complete-game shutout and
Jackson Hornung hit a long home run for Skidmore in the opener.
Shaw Pedemonti drove in three runs and went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in game two.

GAME 1
- Hasan had faced the minimum until a two-out single in the sixth inning brought the tying run to the plate. He got a groundout to get out of the mini jam. A leadoff Wisconsin Lutheran single in the second was erased with an around-the-horn double play. Hasan also gave up a single in the fourth, but Hornung chucked out the would-be base stealer at second.
- Wisconsin Lutheran put a runner in scoring position for the first time all afternoon in the seventh with back-to-back one-out singles. After getting a strikeout, the runners moved up on a passed ball. Hasan completed his shutout when he got the called-third strike on a full-count pitch.
- Skidmore took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second. Brendan O'Neill singled through the middle to lead off before Ewen Donald singled and Sam Kornet walked to load the bases with nobody out. The Thoroughbreds settled for one after bouncing into a double play followed by a ground out.
- Hornung's solo blast in the third inning on an 0-2 pitch sailed well beyond the left field fence.
Â
GAME 2
- Skidmore scored four runs in the top of the first inning with the help of a pair of WLC errors. Hornung hit a one-out double down the line in left and the bases were loaded after an infield error and walk to Zachary Leiderman. Pedemonti singled inside the line in right to score two. Leiderman came in on an overthrow to make it 4-0, and Pedemonti scored Skidmore's fourth when Anthony Peterson doubled to left.
- Leiderman finished the game 2-for-3 with two doubles and a walk. Peterson also had two hits and a walk. Both scored once.
- Thoroughbred starter Peter Martin walked four hitters in the bottom half of the first but stranded the bases loaded threat with a strikeout to wiggle out of it after only allowing one run.
- Three out of the first four Wisconsin Luthern batters hit singles in the second inning to score one more run.
- Martin worked a clean third inning thanks to a dazzling double play started by O'Neill at shortstop.
- Trey Bourque singled through the left side to bring in Skidmore's fifth run in the fifth inning, and Pedemonti closed out the scoring in the seventh when he bunted for a single with a runner on third.
- Zach Dines was credited with the win, his first collegiate victory, after pitching two scoreless frames in relief. Four of his six outs came by way of the strikeout. He walked one.
- Ethan Caiazza retired all three hitters he saw in the sixth, and Christian Giresi got strikeouts for all three of his outs in the seventh to close out the sweep.
