Thoroughbreds motor through Baruch, 12-0

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Skidmore College baseball team improved to 3-0 on its trip to Florida with a 12-0 win over Baruch College on Monday morning.

  • In the combined shutout, first year Quinn Hocom threw five two-hit innings for his first collegiate victory. He allowed just two singles (one each in the second and fifth inning) and two walks. Hocom struck out five Bearcat hitters.
  • Anthony Peterson fired two scoreless innings of relief, while Ewen Donald and Matt Karpousis pitched one inning each to close it out. The pitching staff allowed just six Baruch singles all afternoon.
  • Trey Bourque was 4-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored. He launched a two-run homer to left field in the third inning.
  • Brendan O'Neill also drove in four runs. He had two-run singles in both the seventh and eighth innings.
  • Skidmore took the lead, 1-0, when Max Mello reached on an infield error, but earned the RBI. Bourque scored on the play. Bourque doubled with Jackson Hornung at first base and one out to put a pair of runners in scoring position.
  • After Bourque's homer in the second inning, Mello brought in Hornung from first, who was running on the pitch, with an opposite-field double to make it 4-0 in the fifth inning.
  • The Thoroughbreds piled on with two runs in the seventh inning, five in the eighth, and one in the ninth.
  • Two batters after Cameron Pedemonti was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, Bourque collected his third and fourth RBI on a single to left in the seventh.
  • Pedemonti completed the scoring with a sacrifice fly in the ninth.
  • Baruch put a runner in scoring position only once. It was in the fifth inning when a two-out walk to the leadoff hitter Roy Longarzo moved Kenneth Taveras, who singled to lead off the inning, to second. Hocom put a bow in his strong performance by inducing a ground out to end the inning.
  • NEXT UP: After a day off on Tuesday, Skidmore will play two against Western Connecticut State starting at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.
