Thoroughbreds dismantle Oneonta, 22-6

ONEONTA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team dominated from start to finish in a 22-6 road win at Oneonta on Wednesday. The Thoroughbreds are 1-1 in the young season. The Red Dragons drop to 1-1.
 
  • Charlie McFadden scored six teams to lead the way for Skidmore. It's a career high for the junior, who previously scored four goals in a game three different times.
  • Brian Gonsalves and Jack Whalen scored three goals each.
  • Jimmy Gibbons, Tim Blue, and Nicolo Mazzocca all scored twice.
  • Single goals were scored by Caleb Lawson, Will Fekete, Andrew Meindl, and Elliot Jones.
  • Skidmore scored seven goals in both the second and third quarters, including a 7-0 margin in the third period, to put it away.
  • The game was tied, 1-1, in the middle of the first quarter. The Thoroughbreds rattled off five unanswered goals and eight of the next nine tallies to make it 9-2. After the host Red Dragons scored to make it 9-3 Skidmore, the Thoroughbreds scored each of the next eight goals.
  • Skidmore used three goalies in the win. Collin Kuester made six saves through three quarters as the starter to earn the win. Avery Stamps made three saves in over 12 minutes of action, and Ned Wright closed it out without seeing a shot on target over the final 2:56.
  • Harrison Boukas made 11 saves in relief for Oneonta, as total shots finished 53-23 for Skidmore.
  • Skidmore was 15-for-16 (93.8 percent) on clears and collected 41 ground balls. Jack Fitzpatrick, who won 14-of-21 faceoffs, led the way with eight ground-ball pickups.
  • Jamie O'Neil scored five out of the six Oneonta goals.
  • Skidmore was 3-for-6 on extra-man opportunities. Oneonta was 2-for-2.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host Alfred University in a rescheduled game on Sunday, March 5 at 1 p.m. at Wachenheim Field.
