Skidmore stumped by Elmira, 5-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team fell to visiting Elmira College 5-2 on Saturday. With the win, Elmira sweeps the season series and sets itself up for a potential home playoff game. The Soaring Eagles are 12-10-1 and 9-6-2 (29 points) in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). Skidmore dips to 13-8-2 and 7-7-2 (24 points).
 
  • Kaeden Patrick and Zach Lindewirth were the Skidmore goal scorers.
  • Everett Wardle, Devon Mussio, and Zach Frisk all had one assist.
  • Chance Gorman scored twice for Elmira. Nicholas Domitrovic, Tyler Schwindt, and Brendan Schultz each had one.
  • Elmira popped two goals in a 3:32 span in the first period to take the lead.
  • Patrick scored on the power play early in the second period to cut the deficit in half.
  • Skidmore carried momentum for the next several minutes of play but was unable to score the equalizer.
  • Elmira re-gained its two-goal lead at 8:56 of the middle period. The Soraring Eagles added another with 15 seconds left in the middle frame.
  • Gorman scored his second goal 51 seconds into the third period to make it 5-1.
  • Lindewirth completed the scoring with his sixth of the year at the 12:12 mark of the third period.
  • Skidmore outshot Elmira by a 32-30 margin.
  • Jeffrey Zero picked up the win between the pipes for the visitors with 30 saves. Blaine Moore was dealt the loss for Skidmore. He allowed three goals and finished with 18 saves. Tate Brandon started and made seven saves.
  • The Thoroughbreds slide down to sixth in league standings with two games to play.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will travel to UMass Boston and Johnson & Wales next weekend Feb. 10-11 to complete the regular season. Skidmore can finish anywhere between third and seventh in the final NEHC standings.
