Engineers thwart Thoroughbreds 74-61

TROY, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's basketball team fell 74-61 to Rensselaer in Liberty League play Friday night. The loss drops the Thoroughbreds to 10-10 overall and 8-5 in league play. The Engineers are 14-6 and 8-5 and with the win own the head-to-head tiebreaker over Skidmore.
  • Tautvydas Kupstas led the Thoroughbreds with 23 points and two assists. Greg Skoric had 13 rebounds and seven points, while Riley Greene scored 12 points to go along with five assists.  Alexei Downey added 12 points.
  • RPI's Jonny Angbazo led five players in double figures with 15 points.
  • The Engineers used a 12-2 run early in the first half to open a 10-point lead, then extened the advantage to 20 points at the half, 46-26.
  • Skidmore got to within six a few times in the second half before RPI went on to the 74-61 final.
  • COACH JOE BURKE: "We stunk, end of story. If you're focused then you win that game but for some reason we weren't locked in. We are on to tomorrow."
  • UP NEXT: A 4 p.m. road game Saturday at league leader Ithaca College. The Thoroughbreds beat the Bombers 72-71 at home Jan. 20.
