Thoroughbreds complete second-half comeback in double OT at Babson

BABSON PARK, Mass. – Lily Schwartzman scored the tying goal with 16 seconds left in the fourth quarter and slotted the winner in double overtime to lead the Skidmore women's lacrosse team to a come from behind 11-10 season-opening victory over Babson on Saturday.

  • Through an unrelenting snow flurry, Skidmore battled back from a 9-3 deficit to stun the Beavers at 4:17 of the second six-minute overtime period.
  • Schwartzman finished with three goals and a game-high nine shots. Gabriella Modesti assisted on both the tying and winning goals. She had two goals and four assists for six points.
  • Skidmore outscored the Beavers 7-2 in the second half, which included a run of six unanswered goals over an 18-minute span.
  • Babson made it 9-3 early in the third quarter before the Thoroughbred run. Elizabeth Walsh tied the game at nine with 9:46 left in regulation.
  • Claudia Dodge scored her fourth goal while Babson played a player up with 2:37 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the hosts the lead back.
  • After a Babson turnover with just over a minute to go, Skidmore had a successful clear and took a timeout with 49 seconds left on the clock. Schwartzman connected from Modesti to send the game to overtime.
  • Phoebe Beshlian finished with 10 saves in the win for Skidmore, including three key stops across the two overtime periods.
  • Babson won the draw after the three-minute stoppage of the second overtime but turned the ball over without registering a shot attempt. Skidmore came back and scored promptly after Schwartzman shed her defender and got wide open in a prime scoring area.
  • Maddy Marr scored twice for Skidmore and registered a pair of assists. Marr and Modesti registered all six Skidmore assists.
  • Walsh, Grace deBenedictis, Jillian Lockwood, and Brook LaVallee all scored once for the Thoroughbreds.
