Thoroughbreds handle Warriors, 19-6

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team counted goals from 10 different players in a 19-6 non-league win Monday night over Eastern Connecticut State University. The Thoroughbreds are off to a 2-0 start. It was the opener for the Warriors.
  • Maddy Marr scored three goals and had two assists to lead the offense. Marr also had three groundballs and two caused turnovers. Julia Cafasso scored her first three collegiate goals and had an assist, while Avery Geddes had three goals.
  • Gabriella Modesti found the net twice to go along with two assitsts. Jillian Lockwood added two goals and an assist and Grace deBenedictis scored twice and had four draw controls. Ella Harris contributed a game-high nine draws.
  • Elizabeth Walsh, Maeve McKinley, Lily Hudner, and Camille Pontone all scored.
  • Caroline Stent scored four of Eastern's six goals.
  • Walsh put the Thoroughbreds in front at 12:18 from Modesti. Alexa Vizzini tied it for the Warriors at 11:31. Skidmore rattled off the next nine goals to lead 10-1 early in the second quarter. Eight different players scored during the run, with Lockwood hitting the back of the net twice.
  • Eastern scored three of the next four goals to get the score to 11-4.
  • The Thoroughbreds responded with seven straight, including two each from Marr and Geddes to make it 18-4 after three quarters.
  • Skidmore had a 36-18 shot advantage and won 19 of 29 draws.
  • Phoebe Beshlian had two saves over the first 45:00 for the win. Liv Kazanjian stopped three shots in the fourth quarter.
  • Emma Alford had 10 saves for Eastern.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will try to make it three straight on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. at home against Williams College.
