Tate Brandon had 31 saves and four different players scored to lead the Skidmore College ice hockey team to a 4-0 non-league win over Wentworth Saturday night at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The Thoroughbreds are 1-0, while the Leopards drop to 1-1.
** The Thoroughbreds killed off a 5:00 major in the first period to end the stanza 0-0.

Kevin Urquhart beat WIT goalie Jack McGovern stick side after quick passes from defensemen
Sam Saccone and
Danny Magnuson at 6:57 of the second for a 1-0 lead. The Thoroughbreds killed off two partial 5-on-3 powerplays to maintain the lead into the third period.
** Skidmore broke it open in the final stanza with three goals. Magnuson made it 2-0 when he broke in alone at 4:49 with
Everett Wardle and
Will Dow-Kenny assisting.
Kaeden Patrick picked up the third goal on another breakaway with Dow-Kenny and
Jacob Zwirecki earning the helpers. Zwirecki made it 4-0 with his first collegiate goal, an empty netter from
Stephen Perez at 17:45.
** Skidmore had a 35-31 shot advantage. Brandon earned his program record sixth career shutout.
** The shutout was the team's first since a 6-0 win over Johnson & Wales on Feb. 11, 2022.
** It was Skidmore's first opening game win since a 2-1 2019 victory against Cortland.
