Thoroughbreds complete season sweep with 5-2 win over New England College

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College ice hockey team picked-up three huge standing points with a 5-2 New England Hockey Conference win Saturday at the Saratoga Springs City Rink. The Thoroughbreds are 11-4-2 overall and 5-3-2 in the NEHC. The Pilgrims are 9-9-1 and 6-6-1.
  • The Thoroughbreds avoided a let-down after Friday's 1-1 tie with #5 Norwich to beat NEC for the second time this season.
  • Jaden York led a group of five goal scorers with a goal and two assists. Jack Strauss, Mason Beecher, Ryan Waltman and Joe Biddle all scored.
  • Skidmore took control early, when Joe Biddle scored a short-handed goal at 2:28 of the first. Jaden York made it 2-0 30 seconds leater from Kaeden Patrick and Devon Mussio. Ryan Waltman extending the lead to 3-0 with his sixth of the season from Zach Lindeworth and Biddle at 12:23.
  • NEC closed it to within one with a pair of second period goals. Wyatt Andrews scored :47 into the stanza and Anthony Cinato made it 3-2 at 19:20.
  • The Thoroughbreds added a pair of insurance goals in the third. Strauss scored his first of the season at 11:41 from York and Danny Magnuson. Beecher found the back of the net his team's second short hander of the game and seventh of the season at 16:20 from York.
  • Skidmore outshot the Pilgrims 46-30. Tate Brandon had 28 saves to move to 8-2-2 for the season.
  • The Thoroughbreds are fighting for home ice for the upcoming NEHC playoffs. Skidmore is 8-1-2 at home this season with a 10-game unbeaten streak.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds host travel partner Castleton University on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a rescheduled contest.
