Thoroughbreds take #29 RPI to the wire

WILTON, N.Y.—In a battle of the Liberty League's top two teams, #29 Rensselaer held off upset minded Skidmore 5-4 in a match played at the Wilton YMCA. The unranked Thoroughbreds are 6-8 overall and 5-2 in league play. RPI is 9-1 and 5-0.
  • The Engineers won two of three doubles matches to take a 2-1 lead into singles. Zachary Portnoy and Brendan Jimenez had the 8-5 win at number two over Max Stafanov and Igor Visnevskij.
  • Skidmore split two three-set singles matches. Tristan Thiebaut picked-up a 6-4, 3-6, 6-3 win at number five singles over Suhas Kirshnan. Sergiu Celebidachi lost a heartbreaker at number two, 3-6, 6-3, 7-5 to Emilio Van Cotthem.
  • Brendan Jimenez won 6-4, 6-4 at number four singles and John Rado was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at number three.
  • The contest was a rematch of the 2021 Liberty League championship that Skidmore won 5-0.
  • Skidmore steps away from the Liberty League for matches at Amherst (April 16) and vs. Middlebury (April 23 at Trinity College).
