Clarkson rallies late to get past Skidmore 15-14

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—Clarkson University scored the game's final four goals to edge Skidmore College 15-14 in Liberty League women's lacrosse Friday evening at Wachenheim Field.  The loss drops the Thoroughbreds to 2-7 overall and 2-3 in league play, while the Golden Knights are 8-2 and 3-2.
  • Gabriella Modesti led Skidmore with three goals and three assists. Maddy Marr had two goals and two assists. Scoring two goals each were Maeve McKinley, Elizabeth Walsh, Jillian Lockwood, and Danielle Kilburn. Lily Schwartzman added a single goal, while Ella Harris had a season-high nine draw controls.
  • Skidmore did most of its scoring in the first quarter, building an 8-4 lead behind back-to-back goals by Modesti, Kilburn and Lockwood.
  • Clarkson slowly cut into the Thoroughbred lead with a 3-2 advantage in the second and third quarters.
  • Skidmore kept the Golden Knights at bay for the first 10 minutes of the fourth quarter, stretching the lead to 14-11 on Schwartzman's goal from Marr with 6:54 to play.
  • Clarkson scored the next three goals to tie it and looked to take the lead with a free position at the 2:15 mark. Thoroughbred goalie Liv Kazanjian made the stop and Charlotte Cass grabbed the ground ball put Skidmore on the attack. A turnover with 1:19 to play gave the Golden Knights possession and set-up a free position goal with :36 seconds to play and the team's first lead of the game. Clarkson won the draw and ran the clock out for the 15-14 win.
  • Skidmore is back at it Saturday at 2 p.m. against St. Lawrence.
