Thoroughbreds take retribution from Castleton

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College baseball scored three runs in the fifth and held on to beat Castleton, 4-3. Prior to the regularly scheduled game, Castleton (7-17-1) won 14-8 in the game from April 6 that was suspended.

  • Jackson Hornung delivered the big blow – a two out, two-run home run – to break a 2-2 tie to highlight Skidmore's fifth.
  • Anthony Mollica doubled down the line in right to score William Snyder from second to knot it up two batters earlier.
  • Snyder moved to second on a well-executed sacrifice bunt from Owen Fitzhugh.
  • After a brisk first three innings, Castleton scored twice in the fourth thanks to a bases-loaded hit by pitch followed by a walk.
  • Peter Martin entered and got out of the jam in the fourth and into and out of trouble in the fifth to pick up the win for Skidmore (21-5-1).
  • The Thoroughbreds cut the deficit in half in the bottom of the fourth when Nathan Wagner scored Brendan O'Neill from first on a hot-shot double to the left field corner.
  • Ethan Barnett allowed just one base runner, a hit batsman, over 3.0 innings of near-perfect relief. He struck out a pair.
  • In the ninth, Jesus Carnedas led off for the Spartans with a bunt single and moved to third on consecutive ground ball outs. He scored on an infield error, which put the tying run on base. Tyler McClain singled and Evan Keegan walked to load the bases with two outs.
  • Kannon Dush hit a hard line drive deep to the right-center field gap, but Jaden Torrado ran it down to save the game for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Ethan Caiazza got the save, his third.
  • Ewen Donald tossed 3.0 shutout innings for Skidmore in the start. He walked three and struck out two while surrendering just two singles.
