Thoroughbreds stymied by #8 William Smith

GENEVA, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team fell to nationally eighth-ranked William Smith on the road, 18-5.
 
  • Maddy Marr led the way for Skidmore (2-6, 2-2 Liberty) with three goals.
  • Jillian Lockwood had a goal and an assist.
  • Avery Geddes scored once.
  • Lara Strunk, Maeve McKinley, and Amelia Bassett all assisted once.
  • Liv Kazanjian finished with 14 saves in just under 50 minutes of action in goal for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Skidmore was led in draw controls by Charlotte Cass with four and Ella Harris with two. The Herons walked away with a 15-11 edge in draw controls. Maddie Montgomery won 12 draw controls for the hosts.
  • Allie McGinty and Katherine Murray both had five goals to pace the Herons. McGinty also had two assists, while Murray posted one for William Smith (8-1, 3-0 Liberty).
  • Marr scored all three of her goals in the first half, and the contest went into the half with William Smith leading by four, 7-3.
  • The Herons came out with a 6-0 third quarter as part of an 11-1 WSC run.
  • William Smith finished ahead in shots (45-10) and ground balls (25-11).

  • Skidmore returns home, where it will play its next four games, next weekend for a crucial back-to-back against Liberty League foes Clarkson and St. Lawrence.
