Thoroughbreds fall in defensive battle with St. John Fisher, 8-4

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team was held without a goal in both the first and fourth quarters in an 8-4 non-league loss to St. John Fisher on Friday.
 
  • St. John Fisher scored the game's final four goals, including a tally with nine seconds remaining in the third quarter to take a 5-4 lead.
  • Lara Strunk, Gabriella Modesti, Jillian Lockwood and Maeve McKinley each scored once for Skidmore (2-10).
  • Liv Kazanjian finished with 13 saves.
  • Karenna Benanti had a team-high three caused turnovers and two ground balls.
  • Caleigh Tryder picked up three ground balls.
  • Sydney Carpenter and Kathleen Salanger both scored twice for St. John Fisher (4-6).
  • Carpenter also had an assist.
  •  Lilly Goodell turned aside nine shots for the visitors.
  • The first quarter and a half saw just two goals, both from SJFC. The Cardinals extended their lead to three with a player-up free position goal at 7:17 of the second.
  • Strunk got the Thoroughbreds on the board with 4:55 to play in the second, and Modesti closed the gap to one in the final minute of the half.
  • Fisher got the draw control, one of 12 draw controls for the team, and scored with five seconds to play in the half to make it 4-2.
  • A long span without scoring again in the third ended with Lockwood's tally exactly 11 minutes into the second half.
  • McKinley tied it at four for Skidmore with 30 seconds to play in the third.
  • Draw controls finished 12-4 for SJFC.
  • Both teams scored twice on draw controls. Skidmore had four chances, while the Cardinals had six.
