Thoroughbreds battle Engineers to the wire

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team closed with the final four goals of the game, but came up just short against visiting Rensselaer, 11-10.
 
  • After scoring with 82 seconds remaining and securing the ensuing draw control, Skidmore put the would-be game-tying shot on target with 30 seconds remaining, but RPI relief goalie Jenny Canfield came up with her eighth save of the half to secure the win.
  • Gabriella Modesti had three goals for the Thoroughbreds.
  • Elizabeth Walsh and Maeve McKinley each scored twice. Walsh led Skidmore (2-9, 2-5 Liberty) with seven shot attempts, including six on target. McKinley also picked up three ground balls to lead the Thoroughbred fleet.
  • Maddy Marr had a goal and two assists to finish with three points.
  • Danielle Kilburn and Amelia Bassett scored one goal apiece.
  • Charlotte Cass, Claire Loos, and Caleigh Tryder each caused two turnovers from the Thoroughbred defense.
  • Ella Harris led all players with seven draw controls.
  • Liv Kazanjian posted six saves.
  • Megan Shay led the way for the Engineers with four goals and an assist.
  • Rylie Maready and Lauren DeLeo both posted three goals for RPI (9-2, 5-1 Liberty).
  • RPI goalies combined for 16 saves. Olivia Kimball had eight in the first half.
  • Shay scored twice for RPI to open the scoring early in the first quarter.
  • Skidmore responded with three to take the lead by the mid-point of the first.
  • The Engineers rattled off four straight and 8-of-10 to take its largest lead of the game, five, in the early stages of the third.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored five of the game's final six games over the final 34:48 of play to fuel the comeback bid.
