SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team outscored visiting Haverford 5-2 in the second half and 3-0 in the fourth quarter to earn a 10-7 victory on Saturday afternoon at home.

Skidmore (2-1) has allowed seven goals or fewer in back-to-back games. Haverford falls to 2-2 on the young season.

Ben Gastonguay,
Charlie McFadden, and
Alex Carpenter all scored twice to pace the Thoroughbreds. Gastonguay also had an assist to finish with a game-high three points.
Charlie Kessler,
John Sveen,
Brian Gonsalves, and
Jimmy Gibbons each scored once for Skidmore. Gibbons also had an assist.
Jon Bouvier and
Ryan Flynn pitched in with one assist each.

Collin Kuester led the defensive effort for Skidmore with 17 saves.
Paul Heffernan picked up six ground balls and caused a turnover, while
Luke Curtin went 11-9 in faceoffs with seven ground balls.

Sean Mowatt-Larssen scored twice for Haverford. Blake Brinster, Andrew Arth, Matt Richards, and Jonathan Moon all had one goal. Richards also had an assist. Devin Lefkowitz led all players with eight ground balls. Colby Freeman turned aside nine shots in goal for the Fords.

Skidmore got off to a hot start, scoring twice in the opening three minutes. Haverford rolled off four consecutive goals to close the first quarter ahead 4-2. Skidmore brought it back even with a pair of goals from Gonsalves and McFadden in the middle of the second quarter. Both teams got one more before the half was up to take a 5-5 deadlock into the break.

The Thoroughbreds struck first to open the second half at the 1:45 mark. The Fords seized the lead, 7-6, after a goal with 9:39 remaining in the third followed by a man-up goal with 2:48 to play in the third period.

Carpenter tied it at seven for the Thoroughbreds with 1:54 left in the third. Then, Gibbons gave Skidmore the lead for good with a highlight-reel goal at the 5:26 mark of the fourth. Carpenter and Gastonguay added insurance later to put it away.
