SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. –
Jackson Hornung hit a two-out solo home run the opposite way to right field to tie it up in the eighth inning as the Skidmore College baseball team tied Castleton, 9-9, on Wednesday. The contest was ruled final after nine complete innings with temperatures dipping into the 30s and darkness approaching.

- After Skidmore (12-2-1) batted around and scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth to take an 8-1 lead, Castleton (5-8-1) answered with four in the fifth and three in the seventh to knot it at eight before taking the lead, 9-8, in the top of the eighth.
- The Spartans loaded the bases with nobody out in the eighth. Christian Giresi got out of it with just one run allowed thanks to an auspicious intentional walk backed up by a ground ball double play to get out of it.
- Reece de Castro gave the visitors the lead in the eighth on a sacrifice fly. Earlier, he had two doubles and finished the game 3-for-4. Â
- Hornung was 3-for-5 with a homer and a double and scored twice for the Thoroughbreds.
- Brendan O'Neill was 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, a run, and one driven in.
- William Snyder finished 1-for-4 with a walk and scored twice. Â Â
- Skidmore scored three in the second to take the lead. O'Neill and Jaden Torrado hit back-to-back singles to center before executing a double steal. O'Neill scored on a wild pitch, and Torrado came in on a William Snyder single. Snyder came around three batters later on a Shaw Pedeemonti two-out single through the middle.
- Briston Maynard and Cameron Pedemonti had consecutive run-scoring doubles to highlight the big fourth inning.
- Tyler McClain picked up a pair of two-run doubles to lead Castleton's comeback. He scored the tying run in the seventh on an RBI ground out by Jacob O'Brien.
- Peter Martin had a strong start for the Thoroughbreds. He scattered five hits and one run over four innings. He didn't walk a batter and struck out two.
