Skidmore wins third straight, 8-1 over RIT

WILTON, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's tennis team remained at the top of the Liberty League standings with an 8-1 win over RIT Sunday afternoon at the Saratoga YMCA. The Thoroughbreds have won three matches in four days for a 5-6 overall and 4-1 Liberty League record. The Tigers are 5-4 and 1-5.
 
  • Skidmore set the tone early with a 2-1 advantage in doubles. Sergiu Celebidachi and John Rado won 8-2 at number one and Zachary Portnoy and Brenden Jimenez were 8-3 winners at number two.
  • Portnoy led a Thoroughbred singles sweep with a 6-3, 6-2 win at number one over Berko of RIT. Rado won 6-3, 6-2 at number two.
  • The win clinches a Liberty League playoff berth. The Thoroughbreds have three league matches left (Union, RPI, Hobart). RPI is unbeaten in league play and the conference's lone nationally ranked team.
  • Skidmore is 9-0 all-time against RIT
  • Next up is an April 1 match at Union, followed by a home match against Division II Le Moyne on April 3.
