Thoroughbreds fall 14-12 at Union

SCHENCTADY, N.Y.— The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team battled back from an eight-goal third quarter deficit, but fell just short 14-12 to Union College in Liberty League action Saturday. The Thoroughbreds are 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Dutchwomen move to 2-2 and 1-1.
  • Gabriella Modesti led the Thoroughbreds with three goals and five assists. Maeve McKinley added three goals and Amelia Bassett had two goals and an assist. Elizabeth Walsh scored twice, while Lara Strunk and Maddy Marr had single goals.
  • Union led 4-3 after the first quarter, then used a seven-goal run to go up 11-4 at the half.
  • After the Dutchwomen scored the first goal of the third, Skidmore stormed back with seven straight goals to cut it to 12-11 with 6:19 to play in the fourth quarter. Modesti had two goals and four assists in the run. McKinley scored, while the Thoroughbreds were down a player.
  • Union responded with a pair of late goals to extend the lead to 14-11. Marr scored from Modesti with :20 left for the 14-12 final.
  • The Dutchwomen had a 32-23 shot advantage.
  • Cate Spaulding had six saves over the final 30:54 for Skidmore, while Liv Kazanjian stopped three shots in the first 29:06.
  • The Thoroughbreds travel to Vassar College on Wednesday for a 5 p.m. game.
