Thoroughbreds fall to #19 RPI, 12-10, in Liberty opener

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. - The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team dropped its Liberty League opener to nationally 19th-ranked Rensselaer, 12-10, on Saturday.
  • First year goalie Collin Kuester turned aside 15 shots for Skidmore (5-3, 0-1 Liberty).
  • Charlie McFadden scored three goals to lead the Thoroughbreds offensively.
  • Jon Bouvier had two goals and one assist.
  • Junior defenseman Tommy McGarrahan also scored twice.
  • Matt Pinckney, Alex Carpenter, and Jack Fitzpatrick each scored once.
  • Connor Glosner had four goals and nine shot attempts to lead the Engineers.
  • Luke Murphy and Rhys Zoldi scored twice.
  • Joseph Perry had 13 saves for Rensselaer (8-1, 2-0 Liberty).
  • Perry made a crucial save on a Carpenter shot with 36 seconds remaining to help the Engineers clinch it.
  • Skidmore scored two goals in an eight-second span to cut a four-goal deficit in half in the middle of the fourth quarter.
  • After a scoreless 10 minutes to open the contest, McFadden put the Thoroughbreds ahead with 4:37 left in the first quarter.
  • RPI scored the next four goals with four different goal scorers.
  • McFadden got the Thoroughbreds back on the board with 8:18 left to play in the half.
  • Murphy and Zoldi each netted their second of the game to close the half and give the visitors a four-goal cushion.
  • The sides traded shots until Skidmore closed with four of the last five tallies to make it interesting in the late stages.
