Thoroughbred comeback bid falls just short in tight loss to MIT

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team scored six unanswered goals over the final 20 minutes of play but ran out of time as MIT walked away with a tight 13-11 victory.
  • Elizabeth Walsh scored a career-high four goals to lead the Thoroughbreds offensively. She also shared the team lead with three ground balls.
  • Gabriella Modesti also had four points on two goals and two assists.
  • Avery Geddes scored twice for Skidmore (1-4) as well.
  • Lara Strunk, Jillian Lockwood and Maeve McKinley all scored once.
  • Victoria Benanti caused three turnovers and picked up three ground balls.
  • Delaney Goetz led the Engineers with a goal and four assists.
  • Sydney Pyon and Julianne Flusche finished with three goals apiece for MIT (3-2).
  • MIT had a hot start and scored the game's first four goals by four different players over the first 6:31 of the contest.
  • After two by Skidmore from Geddes and Walsh, the Engineers scored five consecutive goals to extend their lead to seven late in the second quarter.
  • Strunk and Modesti scored goals separated by 52 seconds in the third quarter to close the gap to five before MIT rattled off three more to take its largest lead of the game, 13-5.
  • Walsh led the charge with three of her four goals down the stretch as the Thoroughbreds attempted the comeback.
  • Charlotte Cass made a move around an MIT player near midfield before racing down and dishing it to Walsh for the goal to make it 13-11 with 1:03 remaining.
  • Nora Donnelly secured the draw control for the Engineers, who were able to run out the clock to end it.
  • The Thoroughbreds will jump back into Liberty League play at Union on Saturday, March 26 at noon.
