Thoroughbreds pull away in second half to beat Bard in league opener

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team outscored Bard 12-3 in a dominant second half to win 19-9 in the Liberty League opener for both teams.
 
  • Avery Geddes led all players with eight points. She scored six goals and had two assists.
  • Danielle Kilburn and Maddy Marr both posted five points. Kilburn went for three goals and two assists, while Marr had a goal and four helpers.
  • Gabriella Modesti, Lily Schwartzman, and Maeve McKinley all scored twice for the Thoroughbreds. Modesti also had an assist.
  • Elizabeth Walsh had a three-point game consisting of a goal and two assists.
  • Amelia Bassett and Grace Grbach also scored for Skidmore (1-3, 1-0 Liberty), with Bassett adding an assist.
  • Liv Kazanjian had six saves to earn the win in goal. Cate Spauling had one save in the fourth quarter in relief.
  • Rachael Yoder led Bard (2-3, 0-1 Liberty) with three goals and three assists. Izzi Popolizio also scored three.
  • Roxanne Rouskas finished with 15 saves for the Raptors.
  • Skidmore scored first, but two from Bard in the middle of the first quarter gave the guests a 2-1 lead.
  • Skidmore got the next four goals to seemingly take command, but Bard answered with three unanswered to knot it at five.
  • Skidmore again grabbed a two-goal lead before the Raptors netted their sixth goal of the half with less than a minute remaining in the half to send it to the break down just one.
  • The Thoroughbreds came out of the break with seven consecutive goals in the first 10:56 of the third quarter to lead 14-6 and grab hold of the contest for good.
  • Total shots finished 42-21 for Skidmore. The Thoroughbreds also had an edge in ground balls (26-23) and draw controls (19-13).
  • Claire Loos led the Thoroughbreds with six ground balls. Charlotte Cass and Karenna Benanti caused three turnovers apiece. Geddes posted seven draw controls, while Walsh had six.
  • Skidmore will host MIT in a non-league game on Tuesday, March 22, at 4 p.m.
