Thoroughbreds end trip with clean sweep of Lasell

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Skidmore College baseball team earned a pair of victories over Lasell University on Saturday to close its trip with seven wins against just one loss. The Thoroughbreds captured game one, 8-1, before exploding for 15 runs in a 15-3 victory in game two.
 
GAME ONE
  • Jack Clark continued his excellent start of the year on the mound for Skidmore (11-1). He tossed his third consecutive seven-inning complete game victory. He surrendered one unearned run and scattered nine hits and no walks with five strikeouts. The Skidmore junior has yet to allow an earned run to cross in 21.0 innings of work.
  • Brendan O'Neill was 4-for-4 with two RBI, two stolen bases, and a run.
  • Skidmore stole eight bases without being caught. Danny Melillo and Jackson Hornung had two in addition to O'Neill. Ewen Donald and Anthony Mollica both swiped one bag.
  • O'Neill doubled in Hornung in the first to open the scoring.
  • In the third, a two-base infield error allowed Trey Bourque, who reached on a two-out walk, to score and make it 2-0.
  • Sean Lang scored O'Neill from second with a two-out single in the fifth to give the Thoroughbreds a three-run lead.
  • The Thoroughbreds broke it open with a five-run bottom of the sixth which featured a two-run single by Melillo.
  • Lasell scored its lone run in the seventh on a CJ Mills RBI ground out.
 
GAME TWO
  • The Thoroughbreds scored at least one run in every inning except the seventh.
  • Skidmore grabbed a comfortable advantage early with two in the first and six in the second. The Thoroughbreds also added four more in the fourth.
  • Bourque finished game two 3-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI, and three runs.
  • Hornung also had three hits and crossed the plate three times.
  • O'Neill picked up three more RBI in the nightcap. He was 2-for-4.
  • 13 players registered at least one hit for Skidmore.
  • Ameer Hasan improved to 3-0 with five strong innings on the mound. He allowed two runs, one earned, on four hits and one walk.
  • Christian Giresi threw the last two innings with three strikeouts to his ledger.
  • Vaun Larisa brought in two of Lasell's three runs. He had an RBI single in the fourth and a run-scoring double in the seventh.
 
  • Skidmore wraps its trip with a record of 7-1, and the only defeat at the hands of sixth-ranked Eastern Connecticut. Overall, the Thoroughbreds are 11-1 headed into league play. Skidmore hosts Ithaca for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader next Saturday, March 26.
