FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Skidmore College baseball team scored 30 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Defiance College on Thursday. The Thoroughbreds captured the first game, 17-8, and won game two 13-2.

- Jackson Hornung continued his torrid stretch at the plate. He had six base hits and eight RBI on the day including six in the first game. With multi-hit showings in both contests, the junior has eight multi-hit games on the season and is riding an eight-game hitting streak. He leads the Liberty League and ranks tied for fifth in Division III with 22 RBI.
- After a day off tomorrow, Skidmore (9-1) will close the trip on Saturday, March 19 with two against Lasell University.

GAME ONE
- After Defiance (3-5) scored four in the top of the first inning, Skidmore answered with 10 in the bottom half of the frame.
- Eight Thoroughbreds combined for nine hits in the massive first inning. The entire lineup reached base safely before an out was recorded.
- Hornung had a two-run double in the first and a bases-clearing two bagger an inning later. He finished with four hits in five trips.
- Skidmore led 13-5 after two innings of play.
- The Thoroughbreds scored single runs in both the fourth and fifth innings.
- Jaden Torrado brought around Skidmore's final two runs in the sixth on a double to right field.
- Peter Martin shook off the first inning to earn the win for the Thoroughbreds. He went four innings and surrendered five earned runs with four walks and a strikeout.
- Ethan Caiazza tossed two shutout innings out of the bullpen. He gave up just one hit and struck out three.

GAME TWO
- Skidmore scored three quick runs on the top of the first inning. Danny Melillo singled up the middle to lead off the game and he scored on a Hornung double to the gap in left-center field. Try Bourque scored Hornung with a single and scored himself three batters later on a Pascal Marcktell single.
- The Thoroughbreds tacked on with one run in both the second and third innings.
- Skidmore plated five more runs in the top half of the fifth highlighted by a two-run single by Melillo and another Hornung RBI double.
- Anthony Mollica and Owen Fitzhugh hit RBI singles in the seventh.
- Fitzhugh finished 3-for-5 with two RBI. Marcktell was 3-for-4 with three runs.
- Anthony Petersen was the winner for the Thoroughbreds. He pitched five strong innings, allowing one run on four hits. He struck out six batters and did not issue a walk.
- Skidmore stole nine bases on the day and was caught just once for a 90.9 success rate.
