Thoroughbreds drop 14-13 heartbreaker

BEVERLY, Mass.—Bates College withstood a wild fourth quarter Skidmore College rally for a 14-13 non-league women's lacrosse win in game played at Endicott College. The Thoroughbreds are 0-3, while the Bobcats move to 2-3.
 
  • Lily Schwartzman scored six goals to lead Skidmore. Camille Pontone added three goals and Danielle Kilburn scored two. Gabriella Modesti scored a goal and had four assists. Charlotte Cass had five ground balls and two caused turnovers.
  • Skidmore spotted Bates a 4-0 lead before scoring six second quarter goals to tail 7-6 at the half. Schwartzman scored three of her goals in the second stanza.
  • Elizabeth Walsh tied it 7-7 at 14:07 of the third quarter. Kilburn gave Skidmore its first lead at 11:20 and Schwartzman made it 9-7 at 9:59.
  • Bates scored six of the next seven goals to go up 13-10 with 6:35 left in the game.
  • Skidmore didn't quit. Tying the game with three consecutive goals from Pontone (6:01), Schwartzman (5:16) and Ponton again with 3:49 to play.
  • Bates scored the game winner after securing the draw and keeping position after three shots, finding the next on the fourth try with 2:00 to play.
  • Bates had 46-31 shot advantage and won 18 of 31 draws.
  • Liv Kazanjian had a career high 19 saves.
  • Skidmore returns home to open its Liberty League schedule March 19 at 12 p.m. against Bard.
