SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's lacrosse opened the 2022 season with a 13-10 defeat to Babson on Sunday afternoon.

Gabriella Modesti and
Lily Schwartzman led the way with three goals apiece for Skidmore. Modesti also had an assist to finish with four points.
Elizabeth Walsh scored twice, while
Camille Pontone and
Amelia Bassett had one goal apiece.
Maeve McKinley assisted twice.

For Babson, Erin Jayne had four goals and two assists to lead all players with six points. Courtney Kaskey scored three times and added an assist. Amelia Novitch, Claudia Dodge, Nicole Darveau, Solana Fahey, Genevieve Bushey, and Kathryn Blake all had one goal.

Babson led for most of the contest but was never able to pull away. The Thoroughbreds scored three-straight goals in the fourth quarter to pull to within two. Kaskey got her third tally in the final minute to halt the comeback attempt.

Over the second half of the third quarter and into the fourth, Babson went on a 5-1 run to spin a one-goal game into a 12-7 Babson lead before the Thoroughbreds attempted the comeback.

Skidmore went 2-for-2 in player-up opportunities. Babson was 0-for-1.

Liv Kazanjian had nine saves in goal for Skidmore.
Cate Spaulding had one in a minute of relief. Kethleen Murphy turned aside six shots for the Beavers. Ground balls finished 23-14 for Babson and the Beavers committed 20 turnvers against 21 for the Thoroughbreds.

Skidmore will return to play Wednesday, March 9 at 6:30 p.m. at home versus Trinity College. Â Â
