Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Thoroughbreds come up just short at St. Lawrence

CANTON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team fell on the road at St. Lawrence Friday night, 65-54, in a contest that featured 14 lead changes and five ties.

Trent Adamson connected on a pair of free throws with 22 seconds remaining to put the Saints ahead by a point. The score stuck as Skidmore was unable to get anything to go down in the final seconds. Neither team led by more than a single point over the last six minutes.

With 40 seconds remaining and the Thoroughbreds ahead by one, Riley Greene picked off an errant St. Lawrence pass and quickly drew a foul. The front end of a 1-and-1 bounced out but was collected by Harrison Eichelberger. A host player promptly jumped at the ball and was rewarded a held ball and possession went to St. Lawrence.

Adamson was fouled going to the basket on the other end to earn two shots. He finished with a team high 20 points and 13 rebounds for the St. Lawrence (15-9, 9-8 Liberty League).

On Skidmore's final possession, Ty Lamport drew a blocking foul on a take to the basket with seven seconds left. He was also unable to hit on the front end of the 1-and-1, but Mark Engel managed to get a hand on the ball on the floor to give the Thoroughbreds one more chance with 2.3 seconds to play. Greene attempted an in-bound pass to Greg Skoric, but it didn't connect, and SLU was able to run out the clock.

Skidmore drops to 12-10 on the year and 8-8 in the Liberty League with a game to play. The Thoroughbreds are in sixth place and will close on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Clarkson. In the ultra-tight league standings, Skidmore can finish anywhere from fourth to seventh with a number of possible scenarios.

Eichelberger led all players with a season high 25 points. He also had eight rebounds and went 6-of-11 from 3-point range. Skoric finished with 12 points and 13 rebounds for his 16th double-double of the campaign. Jake Walsh had nine points, and Lamport dished out seven assists to go with five points and five rebounds.

Luke Hicks scored 18 points on 4-of-9 from behind the arc for St. Lawrence. Trey Syroka led all players with eight assists.
