NAPLES, Fla. – The Skidmore College men's basketball team drudged back from a 10-point second-half deficit, but closed its Florida trip with an 83-78 overtime defeat to nationally eighth-ranked John Carroll on Friday.
 

• Skidmore opened on an 18-4 run before John Carroll closed the gap to take the lead early in the second half.
• John Carroll led by 10 (54-44) at the 7:32 mark of the second.
• The Thoroughbreds chipped away until a Mark Engel 3-ball gave Skidmore a two-point lead with 3:21 remaining.
• Joey Skoric hit a go-ahead 3-pointer with under a minute to go.
• JCU hit 1-of-2 free throws with four seconds left to force overtime.
• In OT, JCU scored the game's final five points to take the victory.
• Five Thoroughbreds scored in double figures: Tautvydas Kupstas (19), Joey Skoric (13), Engel (11), Greg Skoric (10), Alexei Downie (10).
• Greg Skoric also had 11 rebounds to cap his double-double.
• NEXT UP: Skidmore will return home and jump back into Liberty League play with a weekend home series against Union and RIT Jan. 6-7.
