Thoroughbreds drop Liberty League contest to Union, 74-61

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— The Skidmore College men's basketball team couldn't overcome a quick start, falling to 74-61 to Union College in Liberty League play Friday night at the Williamson Sports Center. The Thoroughbreds are 4-7 overall and 2-2 in league play. The Dutchmen are 2-9 and 1-3.
  • Harrison Eichelberger, Greg Skoric, and Tautvydas Kupstas scored 14 points each for Skidmore. Skoric had the double/double with 10 rebounds to go along with four blocks.
  • Edward Baptiste and Aren Cummings had 16 each for Union.
  • The Dutchmen scored the game's first seven points before Kupstas hit a jumper at 17:48. Union pushed the lead to 12-2 before Skidmore cut it to two, 16-14 behind three Eichelberger threes and one from Kupstas. The visitors used a 14-3 run over the final 4:11 of the half to go up 45-28 at the break.
  • The Thoroughbreds weren't able to get any closer than 11 in the second half.
  • Skoric grabbed his 700th career rebound in the first half. Now with 708, he moved past Edvinas Rupkus '18 into third on the all-time list.
  • COACH JOE BURKE: "There is no other way to put it, that was a disappointing effort and result tonight. Give credit to Coach Murphy and Union for being ready to play. We were not engaged like we need to be and that is unacceptable. Beauty of basketball is that you get to go right back at it and try to correct some things tomorrow.  At the end of the day we need to get better and tougher especially on the defensive end.  This program has high standards and we are all falling short of those at the moment."
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will look to bounce back with a Saturday home league contest against RIT. The Tigers (6-4, 2-1) are coming off an impressive 73-64 road win over Hobart Friday night.
