Thoroughbreds knock off #6 Oswego 4-1 to win Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Thomas Finck scored three goals and Tate Brandon made 32 saves in leading the Skidmore College men's hockey team to a 4-1 victory over nationally sixth-ranked Oswego in the 2022 Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational championship on Sunday.
 
  • Skidmore (8-2-1) has won the tournament for the third consecutive time (2019, 2021, 2022).
  • After scoring the hat trick, Finck was awarded the tournament's Most Valuable Player award.
  • Brandon and Kaeden Patrick were also on the All-Tournament Team.
  • Ryan Dickinson and Alex DiCarlo represented Oswego. The All-Tournament Team was rounded out by Kurt Watson of Rivier and Matt Carlson from Wilkes. Wilkes defeated Rivier 3-1 in the Consolation Game earlier on Sunday.
  • Skidmore needed just 23 seconds of it first power-play opportunity to take the lead at the 3:17 mark of the first period. Patrick scored from Danny Magnuson and Connor Wood on a rebound.
  • Finck sent the Thoroughbreds into the second intermission up a pair when he scored his first of the afternoon from the left-wing side with 58 seconds left. Nick Cozzi and Devon Mussio had the assists.
  • Then, Finck scored again at 11:45 of the third to make it 3-0. He finished a cross-ice pass from Wood after getting it from Jaden York.
  • Skidmore hit the penalty kill with 5:35 remaining for a five-minute major. Oswego scored with 2:06 left to play to break up the shutout. Shane Bull connected on a rebound from Ryan Bunka and Alex DiCarlo for the Lakers.
  • Finck completed the hat trick with 51 seconds left on a shorthanded empty-net tally.

  • Both teams went 1-for-2 on the power play.
  • Shots finished 33-22 for Oswego.
  • Cal Schell stopped 18 shots in goal for the Lakers.
  • Skidmore is unbeaten (3-0-1) over its last four games, which includes two games against USCHO top-10 teams.
  • NEXT UP: The Thoroughbreds close the semester next weekend on the road against Elmira and top-ranked Hobart.
