Skidmore overwhelms Southern Maine, 6-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Six different players found the back of the net for the Skidmore College men's hockey team in a 6-2 conference win over Southern Maine on Saturday.
 
  • Skidmore finishes the weekend with four points after Friday's draw with #7 Babson. The Thoroughbreds improve to 6-2-1 and 2-1-1 for seven points in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC).
  • The Huskies fall to 1-6 and 1-5.
  • Kevin Urquhart, Jaden York, Zach Frisk, Devon Mussio, Thomas Finck, and Danny Magnuson all scored for Skidmore
  • Jacob Franczak had two assists. Connor Wood, Freddie Ilias, Nick Cozzi, Matthew Monk, Ethan Heidepriem, Will Dow-Kenny, and Zach Lindewirth all assisted once.
  • Tate Brandon turned aside 27 shots to finish off Skidmore's unbeaten weekend.
  • Curtis Judd scored both goals for the visitors. Jakob Suran, Cole Ouellette, and Austin Marini all had assists.
  • After a scoreless first period, Urquhart scored the first goal of his career at 6:50 of the second period to put the Thoroughbreds ahead.
  • Judd tied it at one at 11:43, but York scored from Cozzi and Monk just 25 seconds later to start a string of five consecutive Skidmore goals.
  • Frisk joined the party with 6:31 left in the second to send Skidmore into the second intermission up a pair.
  • The Thoroughbreds scored two goals within a minute of each other again in the third period, Mussio and then Finck shorthanded. Magnuson made it 6-1 with 9:49 to play before USM got on the board again with 8:07 left to play.
  • Skidmore had a huge advantage in the faceoff circle, winning 46-of-68 (67.65 percent) draws. Everett Wardle lost just one faceoff in 16 attempts.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will host the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational Nov. 26-27. The Thoroughbreds open the tournament on Friday, Nov. 26 at 2 p.m. vs. Rivier. Wilkes and Oswego will play in the other game at 5 p.m.
