Skidmore and #7 Babson clash ends in 3-3 tie

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Both teams scored three unanswered goals as the tilt between the Skidmore College men's hockey team and nationally seventh-ranked Babson ended in a 3-3 tie on Friday evening. The game was played in front of a crowd of over 1,000 in Skidmore's annual Pack the Rink event.

  • Kaeden Patrick scored twice for the Thoroughbreds and Ryan Waltman scored the other.
  • Skidmore started with a bang. With two goals in the opening 1:57 of play, separated by just 33 seconds.
  • The Thoroughbreds finished the first period up three on Patrick's second goal with 5:03 remaining.
  • Babson (4-1-1, 3-1-1 NEHC) regrouped and scored the game's final three goals, all on special teams. The Beavers connected twice in six power play chances and scored the tying goal while shorthanded.
  • Colby Bailey, Ian Driscoll, and James Perullo scored for Babson.
  • Everett Wardle assisted twice for the Thoroughbreds. Danny Magnuson, Jacob Franczak, Zach Lindewirth, and Connor Wood all had one assist.
  • For the Beavers, Thomas Kramer assisted twice. Perullo, Ryan Murphy, and Andrew Holland all pitched in with one helper apiece.
  • Tate Brandon stopped 38 shots, including 16 in the second period.
  • Nolan Hildebrand had 42 saves for the visitors.
  • Patrick scored on a tip just 84 seconds into the game after a two-man Skidmore forecheck forced a turnover.
  • Then, the near standing room only crowd was ignited at 1:57 when Waltman scored on a rebound after a Babson turnover near the blue line.
  • Patrick's second tally came on a short breakaway with a patient move around Hildebrand.
  • Bailey scored through traffic on the power play mid-way through the second to put Babson on the board.
  • Driscoll lit the lamp with under a minute left, also on the power play, to pull Babson to within one into the second intermission.
  • Perullo scored from the high slot while the Beavers played shorthanded early in the third period to tie it at three.
  • Shots finished 6-4 for Babson in the five-minute 3-on-3 overtime period. Skidmore had an offensive-zone faceoff coming out of a timeout with 19.3 seconds remaining, but Babson won the draw to subdue the threat. Hildebrand stopped Patrick with one second remaining to put a cap to the draw.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore (5-2-1, 1-1-1 NEHC) will host Southern Maine on Saturday at 4 p.m.
