Skidmore swings past Bard, NJCU

 
ANNANDALE-ON-HUDSON, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's volleyball team capped a perfect 3-0 weekend on Saturday with straight-set wins over Bard College and New Jersey City University in a tri-match hosted by Bard on Saturday. The Thoroughbreds swept their two Liberty League matches over the weekend to improve to 2-4 in the league and 7-12 overall.
 
Skidmore 3, Bard 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-19)
  • The Thoroughbreds swept the hosts without allowing the Raptors to surpass the teens in scoring.
  • Grace Aronson re-set her career high with 15 kills to lead Skidmore.
  • Jazlin Chen had nine kills and three blocks.
  • Alex Estey put down seven kills, four blocks, and three aces.
  • Chelsea Winegar racked up five service aces and four blocks.
  • Tiffany Flores and Elizabeth Miller tallied 10 digs each. Flores also had 20 assists and two aces.
  • Skidmore trailed only in the third set but overcame the deficit by closing the match on an 8-1 run.
 
Skidmore 3, NJCU 0 (25-22, 25-23, 25-22)
  • Led by Chen with seven, Skidmore dominated the net with 12 blocks against just four for the Knights.
  • Aronson led the team for the third consecutive match with eight kills to finish the day with 23 and the weekend with 37 (4.11 kills/set). She also had four blocks.
  • Jo Blanco finished with six kills and four assists.
  • Estey had four kills, five blocks, and two aces.
  • Winegar led the defensive effort with 10 digs.
  • Despite the back-and-forth nature of the first set, Skidmore never trailed.
  • NJCU went up 12-6 in the second game but lost its lead on a 9-1 Thoroughbred run.
  • Skidmore withstood seven points in a row from the Knights in the third set to close it out.
 
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will travel to Clarkson next weekend for its penultimate league game on Friday, Oct. 21 before non-league matches against Bates and Potsdam on Saturday.
