Skidmore sweeps St. Lawrence for first league win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College women's volleyball team swept visiting St. Lawrence (25-23, 25-19, 25-14) on Friday evening for its first Liberty League win of the year.
 
  • Grace Aronson led the way for the Thoroughbreds with a career high 14 kills and two blocks.
  • Jo Blanco put down nine kills and had a pair of service aces.
  • Chelsea Winegar finished with seven kills and three aces.
  • Sophie Sacco had a game-high four blocks.
  • Tiffany Flores tallied 21 assists, eight digs, and two aces.
  • Elizabeth Miller had 10 digs, while Bella Klosterman finished with nine.
  • Skidmore (5-12, 1-4 Liberty League) had to come from behind in the first set, at one time trailing by as many as seven points.
  • The Thoroughbreds fought back to take the lead, 22-20, but St. Lawrence (5-14, 1-4) rattled off five straight points to lead 23-22.
  • Skidmore won the set with three straight to close it on kills by Blanco and Winegar as well as a Blanco ace.
  • The Thoroughbreds never trailed in the second set, which featured a 7-1 run to set up game point.
  • In the third, after weather an early St. Lawrence storm, Skidmore came back with a fury, scoring 13-of-15 points to take a nine-point lead and command of the set.
  • The Thoroughbreds hit an identical .324 in the second and third sets and finished the match with a .284 hitting percentage.
  • NEXT UP: Skidmore will hit the road to take on Bard on Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and will stay in town to play New Jersey City at 1 p.m.
