Skidmore succumbs to #9 Babson, 3-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Skidmore College men's hockey team had a third-period lead, but Thomas Kramer scored a pair of goals for nationally ninth-ranked Babson in a 3-2 win over the Thoroughbreds on Friday.

Kaeden Patrick scored twice for Skidmore, including the go-ahead tally early in the third period. The freshman winger now leads the team with nine goals.

The loss cracks Skidmore's five-game winning streak. The Thoroughbreds are 12-7-1 and 7-5-1 (22 points) in the New England Hockey Conference (NEHC). Babson jumps Skidmore in the standings and sit tied for second at 7-4-2 (23 points) and 11-7-1 overall. Skidmore is tied with Norwich (Skidmore owns the tiebreaker) with 22 points for fourth.

Rory Casey scored first at 9:59 of the first period for Babson on a floating backhand shot. Trevor Marcinick and Colby Bailey had the assists. Then, at 9:54 of the second period, Patrick benefited from a bounce off the end wall on a Reid Russell shot. Will Dow-Kenny also assisted on the Thoroughbred power-play goal.

Patrick scored his second to put Skidmore ahead early in the third period on his own rebound after he bounced out from behind the net. Mike Gelatt and Everett Wardle picked up the assists.

Kramer tied it with his first goal at 7:26 on an end-to-end rush. He then scored the game winner with 8:43 remaining after Ryan Black weaved through a pair of defensemen and dished it across to Kramer waiting at the back door. Black also had the primary helper on Kramer's tying goal.

Tate Brandon had 22 saves for Skidmore, while Brad Arvanitis stopped 26 shots for Babson in the victory. Skidmore won the shot battle, 28-25.

Skidmore will host Southern Maine on Saturday at 4 p.m.
