SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The infamous Castle Diamond Pond was still frozen, but the field was in great shape for the Skidmore College baseball team's opener against SUNY New Paltz. The Hawks came away with the 6-1, 7-1 sweep.

GAME 1
The Thoroughbreds spotted New Paltz a 5-0 lead after four innings. The Hawks added one in the seventh before Skidmore scored in the eighth.

Danny Melillo,
Jackson Hornung and
Joseph Pastore had the Thoroughbred hits.
Jake Hardy had sac fly in the eight to plate Pastore for the run.

Starter Matt McQuid only allowed two hits in 3.1 innings, but gave up five runs (three earned). He walked two and struck out three.
Thomas Quinn had four strikeouts in 3.2 innings of relief, while
Ameer Hasan and
Sam Browning each tossed a scoreless inning.

GAME 2
New Paltz broke open a 1-1 game with six runs (three earned) in the fifth inning.

Brendan O'Neill was 2-3 and
Max Mello was 1-3 with an RBI single.

Jack Clark went 4.2 innings, allowing seven runs (three earned) on eight hits. He struck out four and walked three. Melillo highlighted the relievers with two strikeouts in a scoreless seventh.

Skidmore will host Castleton on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
