SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Trailing after the first and third sets, the Skidmore College women's volleyball team stormed back to take the fourth and fifth sets to defeat MCLA, 3-2 (23-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-22, 15-8), on day one of the Skidmore Classic.

Skidmore improves to 7-8 and will play a pair of matches Saturday at 11 a.m. versus New Jersey City University and 1:30 p.m. against Sage. In the second match of the evening, NJCU defeated Sage in straight sets.

Zoe Beals had a season-high 19 kills for Skidmore.
Chelsea Winegar had 13 kills and 22 digs.
Sophie Sacco finished 12-for-21 with just two errors for a .476 attack percentage.
Grace Aronson also had 12 kills and posted a game-high five blocks. Meanwhile,
Jessica Shulman had 26 assists and
Noa Berger had 22.
Elizabeth Miller, who had a game-high 26 digs, also had four service aces and helped Skidmore win the second set with three-consecutive points from the service line late in the set to give the Thoroughbreds the lead.

The teams went back-and-forth for the first four sets and the fifth stanza started 4-4, but Skidmore pulled away with a 5-0 run capped with an ace from
Frida Anguiano. MCLA could only pull to within three as the Thoroughbreds ended it by winning five of the final six points.

Chloie Garber had 21 kills and Kelly Moczulski finished with 18 to lead the Trailblazers. Reagan Scattergood had 11 kills, 20 digs, and three service aces. Â
