FT. MYERS, Fla.—The Skidmore College baseball team opened its Florida trip with a 23-2, 12-8 sweep of SUNY Canton Sunday. The Thoroughbreds pounded out 29 hits in the two games.
Skidmore is off to a 3-2 start, while the Roos are 0-3.
GAME 1
Jay Gamboa was tough on the mound, allowing 2 runs (none earned) on two hits in six innings. He had seven strikeouts.
Quinton Jones worked out of trouble for a scoreless seventh.
Justin LaRose went 3-5 with five runs and five RBI. He cleared the bases with a three-run shot in a 10-run first inning and had a two-run double in the fourth. Jake
Hardy went 3-4 with a triple, three runs and two RBI.
Sam Browning was 3-5 with four RBI, while
Ryan Strickland and Brendan O'Neil were both 2-3.
William Snyder was 2-4 with four RBI.

GAME 2
Skidmore led 12-2 before Canton plated six runs in the top of the sixth to make it interesting.
Starter
Spencer Meyer picked up his second win of the young season. He went 5.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Tim Allen had to come in to get the final two outs and quell the Roo seventh inning rally.
Chipkin had a grand slam in the second inning to give the Thoroughbreds a 6-0 lead. Hardy was 2-3 with two RBI. Skidmore stole six bases, including two by
Danny Melillo.
Skidmore plays Wittenberg University on Monday at 9 a.m.
