POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.—The Skidmore College women's lacrosse team lost its Liberty League opener 13-12 to Vassar College Wednesday night.
The Thoroughbreds are 0-3, while the Brewers move to 2-0.
Skidmore was paced by
Katie Amorosino who had three goals with a ground ball.
Amelia Bassett added two goals, while five others also added goals, including junior midfielder
Emily Hirsch (Yorktown Heights, NY), who also had an assist and a team-best four draw controls. Goalie
Caroline Kenlon finished with five ground balls, in addition to 13 saves.
For Vassar, Kelly Pushie recorded a game-best four goals and three assists for seven points.
Vassar erased a 12-9 Skidmore lead over the final 18:14 of regulation with Pushie tying the game on the free position with 2:56 to play in regulation.
Abby Sanford nearly connected for the Thoroughbreds in the final second of regulation, but Vassar keeper Jackie made the save to send the contest into overtime.
Skidmore won the opening draw of the extra session, but an untimely turnover gave the ball back to the Brewers, who would not relinquish the possession.
Kenlon made a tough save on the first Vassar shot, but it Pushie was awarded a free position that she converted for the 13-12 win.
Skidmore heads to Maryland on Monday when it plays Stevenson University at the US Lacrosse Tierney Field in Sparks, Maryland at 7pm.
