FT. MYERS, Fla.—The Skidmore College baseball team split with 1-1 with Hiram College, winning the first game 18-1 and losing the second 8-5.
The Thoroughbreds are 4-3 to start the season. Hiram is 3-5.
GAME 1
Skidmore set the tone early with an eight-run first on the way to 18 runs o 21 hits.
Sam Browning was 2-5 with three runs and four RBI. He had a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Catcher
Jackson Hornung went 4-4 with four runs and three RBI, including a two-run homer in the sixth.
Justin LaRose (3-5, 2 RBI),
Matt Chipkin (2-5),
Max Mello (2-3), and
Ryan Strickland (3-5, 3 RBI) had multi-hit games.
Rookie starter
Jack Clark got the win with one run on five hits, one walk and six strikeouts in five innings.
GAME 2
Hiram erased a 5-2 Skidmore lead with one run in the fourth, three in the fifth and two in the sixth.
Andrew Knight was 2-2 with two walks and
Danny Melillo was 2-4 with a run and RBI.
Pascal Marcktell was 2-2 with a run. Matther Karpousis had an inning of scoreless relief.
