SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—
Nicolas Stuckless scored two goals and
Brandon Kasel stopped 29 shots to lead the Skidmore College hockey team to a 5-1 win over Southern Maine in the team's final regular season home game.
The Thoroughbreds are 11-8-4 overall and 7-7-2 in New England Hockey Conference play. The Huskies fall to 7-14-3 and 6-9-2.
Skidmore is in sixth place with two road games left in the regular season. The Thoroughbreds are three points behind UMass Boston. The teams play Feb. 15 at 4 p.m. in the season finale. Skidmore will first face Babson Feb. 14 at 7 p.m. The top eight teams qualify for the NEHC Championship Tournament.
Nicholas Charron put Skidmore in front for good with his fifth of the season from
John Litscher at 4:13. Stuckluss upped it to 2-0 at 18:46 from
Matthew Rutigliano. He found himself alone in front and snuck it past Huskie goalie Anthony D'Aloisio glove side.
The teams traded goals in the second period. Defenseman
Matthew Monk made it 3-0 with his first collegiate goal off the faceoff from
David Poirier and
Austin Rook at 5:17. Michael Green ruined the shutout with a power-play goal at 6:33 from Maverick Lynes and Adam Withers.
The Thoroughbreds tacked on a pair of insurance goals in the third period.
William Brochu scored from
Tyler Hall and Litscher at 1:23 and Stuckless tallied his second of the game from Rutigliano and Callahan Johnnson at 2:37.
Shots were 38-30 Skidmore. Kasel had 29 saves, while D'Aloisio stopped 33.
