Thoroughbreds out of the gate strong with 20-3 win

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.—The Skidmore College men's lacrosse team opened the 2020 season with a 20-3 non-league win over Sage College Tuesday evening at Wachenheim Field.
 
The Thoroughbreds had 14 different players score goals.
 
Kyle Fink, Will Stricker, and Alex Miller each had two goals and an assist. William Stevens and Reed Seybolt had single goals and two assists, while Gregory Ross, Ward Mahoney, and Jack Whalen had two goals apiece.
 
Skidmore took advantage of faceoff opportunities, winning 22 of 27. Brendan Hannon was 8-8 and Nick Georgalas was 9-11.
 
Robert Martin, Bailey Martin, and Adante Simpson accounted for the Sage goals.
 
The Thoroughbreds scored twice in the first two minutes on goals by Miller and Will Stricker. A  pair of Ross goals at 7:49 and 5:06 opened it up to 4-0. Three more tallies, including two by Fink left it 8-0 at the end of the first quarter.
 
Skidmore extended the scoring streak to 11-0 before Simpson got the Gators on the board with 5:25 left in the second quarter.
 
The teams traded a pair of goals in the third quarter and the Thoroughbreds added five in the fourth quarter for the 20-3 win.
 
Skidmore had a 71-17 shot and 54-13 ground ball advantage. Four Thoroughbred goalies combined for five saves, with starter Benjamin Kacher playing the first 30 minutes to earn the win. Sage goalie Michael Capitelli stayed busy with 30 saves.
 
Next up is a 1 p.m. road contest Feb. 29 at Plattsburgh.
