SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y.— Plattsburgh State scored :36 in overtime for a 10-9 nonleague win over Skidmore College Saturday at Wachenheim Field.
The Thoroughbreds are 1-1 to start the season, while the Cardinals are 1-0.
The back-and-forth contest featured five lead changes and five ties.
Will Stricker led Skidmore with three goals and an assist.
Zach Skowronek and
Stephen Wafalosky had two goals each.
Gregory Ross and
Ward Mahoney had the other two Thoroughbred goals. Stricker contributed four ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Kieran Rowley and Kyle Smith had two goals each for Plattsburgh.
Stricker gave Skidmore a late 9-8 lead with his second goal of the game at 8:23 from
Kyle Fink. The Cardinals forced overtime with 3:47 to play on a goal by Amos Grimm.
In overtime, Plattsburgh won the face off and Smith fired a shot wide. Kevin Litchauer then scored the game winner 21 seconds later.
Shots were even at 48, while Skidmore had a 34-30 ground ball advantage.
Benjamin Kacher had nine saves for the Thoroughbreds, six coming in the fourth quarter.
Skidmore will host Castleton on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
