BABSON PARK, Mass.—Babson College jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead on the way to a 13-7 win in the season opener for both teams.
Babson (1-0) won its season opener for the fifth consecutive season, while Skidmore begins the year 0-1 for the first time since 2017.
For the Thoroughbreds,
Amanda Orvis scored twice and
Charlotte Cass led all players with six ground balls and four caused turnovers for the
Thoroughbreds. Goalies
Phoebe Beshlian and
Caroline Kenlon combined to make just three saves in the loss.
Erin Jayne finished with four goals and one assist for Babson. Valerie Quinlan scored three times and finished with a game-high seven draw controls to go along with three caused turnovers. Cricket Fligor stopped seven shots in the win.
The Thoroughbreds outshot Babson 26-18 but committed 26 turnovers and converted just 12-of-21 clearing opportunities on the afternoon. The Beavers held a 27-19 edge in ground balls, converted 4-of-6 free-position chances and were successful on 22-of-25 clears.
Skidmore visits Williams next Sunday at 1 p.m.
